The PORTLAND TRANSFORMER
has enough pieces to build- an excavator
a suspension bridge
which TRANSFORMS into a zip line hoist- (see video under Bridge Beams on navigation page)
or a trebuchet
or a catapult
which TRANSFORMS into a pile driver
any number of cranes and pretty much anything you can dream up.
Included in the kit are:
-46 beams and a dozen connecting dowels
- assorted nuts and bolts
-lengths of 1/8" string
-white plastic pulley wheels (sheaves)
-a boom stabilizer
-a small pulley
- a windlass
it also includes a completely assembled "truck chassis"-made up of a 4-wheel sub-base
that supports 2 pieces of 3/4" plywood with a lazy susan between them.
Let's start with a crane.
First build the triangular frame and set it
on the truck chassis.
Now you can build a crane with a magnet instead of a hook.
this crane has a split boom
the boom on this crane is 28" long
This 40" boom is fixed at a 30 degree angle
You can TRANSFORM this crane into an excavator.
the last part of the boom (the #6 beam), and add the pivoting arm of the excavator and connect the yellow plastic "scoop".
